Food Freedom Self-Care Menu

Finding comfort beyond food (without taking food away)

One of the biggest misconceptions about emotional eating is that the goal is to replace food. It isn't. Food is a perfectly valid source of comfort. The aim is simply to build a wider menu of ways to meet your emotional needs, so food isn't carrying the entire weight.

If I'm feeling...

😔 Overwhelmed

  • Step outside for five minutes

  • Make a cup of tea

  • Write down everything on your mind

  • Listen to calming music

  • Have a nourishing snack

  • Ask someone for help

😩 Stressed

  • Box breathing (4-4-4-4)

  • Gentle stretching

  • A warm shower

  • Sit in the garden

  • Eat something satisfying

  • Put your phone away for 20 minutes

😴 Exhausted

  • Have lunch before making another decision

  • Lie down for 15 minutes

  • Early night

  • Eat a balanced meal

  • Reduce today's expectations

😟 Lonely

  • Voice note a friend

  • Hug someone

  • Stroke a pet

  • Join the Food Freedom chat

  • Listen to a favourite podcast

  • Have a comforting meal

😠 Frustrated

  • Walk around the block

  • Journal uncensored

  • Punch a pillow

  • Dance to one song

  • Cry if you need to

  • Then decide whether food would help too

😊 I just want comfort

Choose comfort intentionally.

Maybe that's:

  • Hot chocolate

  • A favourite childhood meal

  • A takeaway with friends

  • Chocolate after dinner

Giving yourself permission often reduces the urgency around food.

Your own self-care menu

Leave space for members to fill in:

Things that help me relax

People I can contact

Foods that comfort me

Things that help when food isn't quite enough

The goal isn't to remove comfort eating. It's to make sure comfort comes from many different places, not just one.

Food can absolutely be comforting. This menu isn't about replacing food, it's about expanding your options for self-care
